PROJECT LEAKY "BALTI"
Disclaimer:This blog entry contains quite a few technical terms…..so feel free to refer to google…..
6th sem….Mini project: A graphics package to implement skills learnt in theory and lab…….
Skills learnt-in theory and prac-woah!Hardly attended theory.And prac-just a simple manipulations in our id’s-copy,paste from somebody else’s account……..
Nevertheless ,me and chooti-my project partner decided to do something original-i.e-we decided that its about time we stopped flicking our senior’s codes, which themselves mustve been flicked from God-knows-where…..Finally zeroed onto “Graphical Simulation of Leaky Bucket Algorithm” after asking our lab incharges for their “valuable opinion” (read worthless)…..
Mock interview-As I was being bombarded by 2 seniors, one workin in National Instruments and the other freshly recruited in Microsoft ( I wasn’t doing very well ),they throw a glance at me when I tell them on what I plan to do my project …….
“You think you can finish it ?” . I said “Yes”, almost confidently……And I wondered-“Is that supposed to be tough?”…………I would find my answer soon…..
After innumerable queries from Rubs regarding the progress of my project,I finally make a statement one Monday evening that I will start drawing my balti…..And next day morn,I do start….After an hour’s work of fiddling with the co-cordinates,I finally have a balti…hurray…!!!!!!!! My euphoria dies down after a few minutes when I realize the magnitude of the implementation of the rest of the project code…..
For the next few days, the ‘balti’ took over most of our times….I say ‘our’ times-which include Me,Aditi(Chooti),Bhatta and Guru…..and last but of course not the least chooti’s granny who had been supplying food to keep our brains going……Even in my dreams,I spent most of the time adjusting virtual life size viewports which would pop out of nowhere as if it were a monster……
In the course of our project, we learnt from our mistakes…and made the same mistakes again, coz I guess somewhere along the way,we fell in love with them.In the beginning,we were on the wrong track….spending our time trying to implement what we visualized.Srinath Sir’s advice put us on the right track.Better late than never………And within 3-4 days…voila…..our project was ready…!!!!!!!!HURRAY!!!!!!!!!!
Our project might not be spectacular, most other projects are games…or we might not be experts at writing codes…..But in the course of this project,we’ve learnt more from making mistakes than from any textbook.
Acknowledgements :
Chooti….for being the project partner….!!!!!
Guru........for helping figure out the logic behind making multiple packets appear…..
Bhatta…..for sticking around and filling our ‘balti’…….. :D
Chooti’s granny……for the food, without which this entire project would’ve been impossible
Arjun…..for the snapshots…..ahh,ive never been so delighted by the sight of anything else!!!!!
Srinath Sir…..for showing us the way
Last but not the least……
Pratibha and Madan, our project guides …… for their “valuable opinions”
