Interpretations Please

A few days ago,i came across a quote by Oscar Wilde.
Didn't quite understand what it meant,so please give me your interpretations.

A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world-OSCAR WILDE

To me, daylight or dawn represents reality and truth........
moonlight and night :our imagination and our dreams which is not bogged down by what we know to be true.......
So ,as a dreamer dreams on.... (or lives on ) in his speculative world , he soon realizes that all his dreams may not come true and how short lived such fantasies are ....and this disappointment is the punishment he faces .....for being a dreamer.
p.s I'd love to see some more interpretations.........:)

A dreamer sees his way only in moonlight means he has to toil hard when others are happily sleeping. The punishment, in reality, need not be the punishment of not fulfilling his wishes. It might mean, he is the first person to reach there (his dream, whatever it is) and there is no one to share that achievement.

I interpreted it this way-
The dreamer is one who works hard with minimum resources and support, that being the moonlight part, and his punishment,as vishwas said, need not be for his mistakes-cause he didnt really make any.Guess they refer it as punishment from the perspective of all those non-dreamer folks, who were peacefully dozing while mr.dreamer toiled in the moonlight. So,the punishment(acc to the others watching)is that he gets to see the dawn before the others can i.e he can foresee the results of his hard work.
Thats what i thought when i first read it.
