The Fastest Kiwi

Burt Munro-a man with an incredible spirit, way past his prime years. He finds it rather insulting that anybody would address him as Sir or Mister-he fancies being called Burt. A bike enthusiast-he simply adores his Indian (his bike). In his neighbours opinion, he is a maniac-experimenting away noisily in the wee hours of the day. Burt’s entire life revolves around his insatiable thirst for speed-evident by the self made pistons which he terms as offerings to the God of speed. He always passes a word of advice to anybody he catches smoking-telling them it aint good. You’re born with one pair of lungs, so why destroy them? And he doesn’t fancy beer either-now how many biker crazy dudes have you come across who would turn down beer eh? He never hesitates to race with younger blokes...he believes youth is within oneself. And boy does everybody respect him in his village in New Zealand. His lone dream is to fly to Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah to show the world that his Indian is the fastest one. The rough American attitude barely dampens his enthusiasm or humor. He wriggles out of every situation using his cheerful manners. I won’t be telling anymore about this guy-go watch the movie- Worlds fastest Indian....and no, it’s not about Narain Kartikeyan. The tagline goes something like this-Based on one hell of a true story! Starring Anthony Hopkins the movie is simply mind blowing! See it to believe it!

There was one more probably just as passionate as Burt. I remember that story reading this post. His dream was to reach and break the sound barrier on land. This obsession of his then became a race between himself and the British built ThrustSSC. The Trust team lead by Richard Noble and driven by RAF Squadron Leader Andy Green was using the calculated approach (with Andy's girlfriend Jane managing communications & Jordanian Army summoned by the King for their help). This person was Craig Breedlove, he didn't believe much in calculations, he raced by listening to his heart. Ultimately the Brits took away the record, but Craig still believes his car "the Spirit of America" is much more capable than what was possible to achieve by his team in the race. I guess he still continues! There was a documentary on Discovery may be 5 or 6 years ago, I never get tired of watching that tape even today! I liked this post!
